A Beachy, Mid-Century Condo at the Auberge Fort Lauderdale

Of course we love designing large-scale homes, but there’s something special about the challenge of designing a condo—fitting everything a home needs into a smaller footprint. We especially love to sink our design teeth into a condo in a building as beautiful as the Auberge Fort Lauderdale.

Designed by the architecture firm of Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, this two-tower waterfront property is on Atlantic Ocean beachfront, a unique and stunning location. The Auberge Beach Residences feature amazing amenities, from a world-class spa and Napa Valley-style wine room to multiple pools and a signature cigar lounge. But one of the coolest features is a HD golf simulator, so you don’t have to leave the beach to hit the links! Even with all these amenities at their disposal, we still want to design a luxury condo retreat our clients will never want to leave.

Our clients, a young, active couple, are looking to us to create their dream Miami vacation home at the Auberge Fort Lauderdale. They love relaxing, livable spaces, with a mid-century modern-meets-beachy style. This oceanfront condo will be a home away from home. One they can share with family and may eventually live in full-time.

Design Concept

Taking their youth, love of mid-century design, and need for bright and airy spaces into consideration, we dreamed up a design intent inspired by the palm trees they’ll see outside their windows: shadow refuge.

Think back to your favorite time on your favorite beach. Picture the rhythm of the palm fronds as they’re moved by the wind. Remember seeking refuge in the shade of one when the sand becomes too hot late in the afternoon. Recall the feeling of finding paradise and connecting with nature’s organic characteristics.

Now imagine bringing that into your vacation home (that happens to have air conditioning and an endless supply of rosé). You’re relaxed, right?

Well here’s how we’re going to make it happen!

Condo Design – Auberge Fort Lauderdale

We’ll mimic the movement and the shadow of a palm frond through the herringbone pattern. By contrasting color, materials, textures, and finishes, we’ll capture the image of a shadow on the sand. Repeating layers and volumes will bring to life the rhythm of a waving palm tree, while materials will strike the perfect balance of organic (billowy fabrics and natural fibers) and elegant.

Mid-century condo design - Material Selection

Materials set the stage for the rest of the Auberge Fort Lauderdale condo design. Stone, linen, and metallic textured wallcoverings lend an elegance, while cement, rattan, and sandy woods offer a natural, organic vibe to ensure the home stays relaxing and livable.

The wood tones also hint at the mid-century modern style our client loves.

Color Selections

Condo design - Accent Colors

A mid-century modern beach retreat needs to be filled with coastal-inspired hues! Sandy grays and taupes are accented by an array of blues, from deep midnight to crisp surf. Though blue is a typical beachy palette color, we chose blue for one important reason: it promotes calmness. And in a vacation home for a busy couple, the one thing they should always feel is calm.

Ready to see this modern, beachy interior design intent in action? Let’s start with the elevator foyer.

Textured wallcoverings lend depth to the small space while the wood door and lighting element bring the movement and rhythm of a palm tree into the design. Both the bench and planters feature mid-century modern legs that match the door. A simple flush-mounted light gives off enough light to greet guests.

Living Room

In the living room, a large sectional sofa offers plenty of seating—or enough space for just the couple to sprawl out and relax. The light hue of the sofa ensures the room still feels bright and airy.  The textured wallcovering adds depth and interest to the monochromatic space.

Minimalist modern furniture with clean lines and simple shapes are accented with bold, eye-catching wall art and a large plant that lends organic texture. We used the same wood from the entry foyer in the living room on the door and chair frame.

This is just the start of things to come for this Ft. Lauderdale oceanfront condo in the Auberge Beach Residences. We’re excited to show you the rest of this gorgeous mid-century modern beach retreat.
