Master Bedroom Decor for a Nautical Miami Vacation Home

In many homes, the master bedrooms get overlooked, as parents often put themselves second to the kids and the common spaces. This is why we pay a little extra attention to the master bedroom decor when we’re designing them for our clients.

This master suite in a Sunny Isles vacation home with a sailing-inspired design scheme was a joy to bring to life. Last June we shared the design intent of all of the bedrooms in this vacation abode, but let’s revisit the design intent to refresh your memory.

Master Bedroom Decor: Design Intent

Sandy hues like tan, gray, and brown dominate the bedroom decor, while ocean-inspired colors (bright turquoise and deep navy) add pops of color. The bedroom is both of relaxing and for some quiet time to get work done. Therefore, we created a desk nook combined with the entertainment center. It’s the perfect master bedroom for a vacation home. But how did it come together in the end?

Some small tweaks were made, but we stayed very true to our original design intent. And we love how it turned out! The custom oversized headboard creates a classic and subtle focal point in the bedroom. Two white streamlined nightstands sit on either side of the bed and don’t draw attention from the rest of the look.

Perhaps our favorite element is a pair of stunning nostalgia pendants on either side of the bed. Table lamps are the more timeless option, but these pendants offer just as much light and up the ante on style since they look like a modern version of a ship’s bell.

The bed is decked out with a plethora of pretty pillows and throws in deep blue, while a blue-gray rug from Horchow underfoot looks like the sky on a cloudy day.

On the opposite wall is our sleek and modern entertainment center. The walnut-finished modern media cabinet from Modloft anchors the look. The walnut wood resembles the wood-lined state rooms of old-school sail boats. More nautical touches abound with driftwood-style accessories dotting the space—the lamp is a favorite.

The lacquered floating desk mirrors the finish on a boat’s hull and the gray desk chair pulls in the gray from the bed. But our work wasn’t done with just the bedroom, we also styled the master bathroom to ensure the entire master suite looked and felt cohesive.

This mostly white space needed to be warmed up a bit, as most bathrooms do. We started by adding in greenery. A monstera leaf brightens up a corner, while a large tropical plant lends life to the patio.

In the middle of the room, we placed a gray tufted ottoman, which ties in the tufting from the headboard, for lounging. Warm wood elements, like a side table and a bathtub tray, soften up the sleek space. Of course, a piece of faux coral adds a bit of decoration and nods to the sailing-inspired design of the home.

We hope you’ve loved our tour of the master bedroom decor we used to bring our clients’ dream vacation home to life. Stay tuned for even more from this beautiful home!
